“When my daughter went shopping for refrigerators last summer, she called me to have me check online for reviews on certain models. One of the models she was most interested in was this Samsung RF265AA, which is a 25.8 cubic feet fridge, with french doors and a pull out freezer drawer on the bottom.
What I found was mixed reviews, showing some great and not so great customer satisfaction records for Samsung refrigerators. She decided to throw the dice because she loved the looks of this model so much, and they purchased it at a great discount because it was an “open box item”, meaning someone had purchased it and returned it. There was no warranty at all, which made me nervous, but she and her husband purchased it anyway. (I told her to buy the extended warranty, but this contract was not even available through Lowes, which I found a bit odd).
My husband and I just spent nearly two weeks with our daughter and son-in-law, and I now see why she was so enamored with this refrigerator! I too am very impressed with they way it looks, it’s features, and how much food it holds!
Description
This model is quite large, measuring almost 70 inches high and 35 inches wide, and it seems very deep at just over 35 inches. It holds 25.8 cubic feet of food! The freezer section alone holds 8.1 cubic feet. If you are into energy ratings, this model consumes 495 kW hours annually.
The fridge is stainless steel, and I am not normally a fan of this color, as it always seems so modern to me, but I have to admit this is a really nice looking fridge, and even blends well with their white stove and dishwasher. The stainless is almost a brushed stainless, but you don’t see any brush lines – I guess you could say it has a matte finish, it’s not shiny and it doesn’t leave fingerprints.
Features
I’ve owned a few refrigerators in my time, but this one has a lot of very unique storage bins! Every one of the shelves are adjustable and made of clear “spill proof glass”. Some models have shelves that are adjustable but hard to move, but these are very easy. We went shopping the day we arrived and filled it with $200 worth of food, and some shelves did need to be moved around to accomodate larger items, and I was impressed with the ease that we accomplished this.
The doors have very deep bucket holders that allowed us to store a gallon of milk, a large jug of cranberry juice, and many other bottle sized items like mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, salad dressings, etc. These holders are made of a tough white colored plastic, and keep everything contained so that if any liquids spill they won’t drip out. The crisper drawer is unlike any I have ever seen, it is long and skinny, and although it isn’t very high, it goes from one side of the fridge to the other, so it really does hold a lot of food. There are two other large drawers for storing fresh fruit and vegetables, and these are very easy to access and pull out smoothly and securely. The drawers in our fridge seem to sag if you pullI love them out too far, but this design won’t let you do that, unless you are removing them for cleaning by lifting up. There are separate humidity controls on both drawers, which is really convenient.
The freezer drawer pulls out easily, and has a lot of storage compartments. The ice bin is really nice, it sits on the left hand side and holds a great deal of ice, and the model even came with a large ice scoop for easy removal. I never heard the ice drop the entire time we visited, while our model is very noisy in that regard. If you leave the freezer door open too long, it makes a sound warning you that the door is ajar. The only thing missing from this set up is you can’t get crushed ice, and I use that feature all the time at home on our model.
Our side by side fridge has a small freezer to the left of the unit, and I confess it is a pain to organize foods, they always get lost in there because you can’t see them! Aside from the main portion of the freezer drawer, which is huge, this Samsung model has great compartments for organizing your frozen foods. To the right of the ice bucket is another cubby with a divider to make organizing foods convenient. What I loved, and found very unique, was the narrow section that allows you to store a frozen pizza!
While you can’t tell from looking at the fridge, there is indeed a water dispenser with filter, but they are located inside the fridge, on the left side. There is a spout with a button to push, but we didn’t use this feature a lot while we were there because the filter needed to be changed and didn’t taste great. We mostly drank bottled water since they are on city water and it is chlorinated.
Temperature controls are digital (that’s also new for me), and you can set both the fridge and freezer with this temp control zone. It also tells you when the water filter needs to be replaced, which is quite convenient. I have never seen a refrigerator with child locks, but this one has those as well.
Closing Thoughts
I am a very picky consumer, and am fussy about my appliances. After using this fridge for almost two weeks, I can say that I would not hesitate to purchase a model like this should our current fridge bite the dust. I would probably get a model with a little less cubic feet for just the two of us, as I can’t imagine the need for a refrigerator that holds this much food!
If you like to buy a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, and stock up on meats when they are on sale so you can repackage and freeze them, this model would be great for you. I have since seen numerous models very similar to this one, and they are all quite expensive, usually around $2000, but because of the circumstances with the item being returned and coming with no warranty, they were able to get it for $1300, which was a great price.
It’s user friendly, and is extremely quiet. I never heard a sound out of this refrigerator during our entire visit! My daughter informs me that this has been a very reliable large appliance and has given them no problems in the 9 months that they have owned it. It seems to be a very good product.”
“My husband and I bought this refrigerator when we moved into our new house. We bought it as an open box item so it didn’t come with a factory warranty, but the sales person told me that this model usually comes with a one year warranty.
It is a pretty big fridge; deeper then a standard size one. I knew it was going to stick out a little far and as a result I can only open one of my kitchen drawers half way, but it is totally worth it. It is super quiet and seems to be very energy efficient. The only sound I ever hear from it is the ice dropping into the holding bucket and the little chirp it gives when you’ve left the door open too long. Yes, it chirps at you! This is a very nice feature because, since it has french doors, sometimes when you close one of the doors, they don’t latch all the way. The little chirp lets you know. Cool, huh?
It is stainless steel so it has a nice modern feel. It is not the shiny stuff that leaves finger prints though. It almost looks like brushed silver. It doesn’t leave any finger prints. I love the way it feels too. Very smooth.
It has a water dispenser (with filter) and ice maker, but they are hidden which allows the refrigerator to keep it’s sleek and stylish look. The water dispenser is inside the left door on the side of the fridge. It’s just a little spout with a small button beneath. The ice maker is in the bottom drawer. It is just a bucket of ice and you get it out with the scoop provided. I like it better then normal ice dispensers because I can guarantee that I get the amount of ice that I want and not guess at how long to hold down the lever. You don’t have the option of crushed ice which is fine with me.
The shelves in the refrigerator portion are all adjustable and spill proof glass. They move very easily up or down to fit whatever it is you need to get in there. The doors have very large bucket holders in them to fit milk, juice and other drinks and condiments. I love the crisper drawer that runs the entire width of the fridge. It really keeps fruits and veggies fresh. Above the crisper drawer are two other drawers that both have humidity controls.
There is an incredible amount of storage in this fridge, and the interior lighting is very bright, illuminating everything so it’s easy to find. I love the glass shelves, their versatility and how they are built so that if any liquids should spill, they are contained to the shelves and won’t drip down to other sections (or foods) in my fridge.
In the freezer there are actually 2 drawers; the large one that you initially pull out, and also a smaller top one that pulls out once the main drawer is open. This smaller one is where the ice is stored. Next to the ice bucket is a storage space for small items that you don’t want to get lost among all the larger items in the bottom. There is a small divider there also that you can use to organize. The bottom, main drawer has a ton of space. You could probably store 2 turkeys in there and still have some room left for other things. There is a small shelf along the front top of the drawer, and an adjustable divider along the bottom. Also in that shelf is a little flap that opens up to a long slit just wide enough to pull a pizza box through. It’s a special feature on the fridge. It makes storing your pizza much easier as well as making it easier to get to.
The temperature control is done on a digital display on the top of the fridge inside the french doors. You can control both the fridge temp and the freezer temp with it and it tells you at all times what you have the temperatures set at. There are also displays telling us when the water filter needs to be replaced, as well as the workings of the fridge, like the status of the temperature controls, child locks, etc.
Since this is such a large refrigerator, it does have wheels to help move it around, which is actually easier than you’d think. There are also two adjustable feet to help level the unit (much like the feet on an oven or washing machine).
This fridge has met all of our needs and expectations. Should it fail to be reliable, I will sure come back and update my review for everyone.”

“We love our new Samsung French door bottom freezer fridge its the best refrigerator ever. It has wonderful space and visibility in the refrigerator area and a very clean appearance. I removed the butter keeper because with it in the door compartments were cramped and couldn’t hold bottles over a certain height. The left door has a narrow space, however, that works perfectly for sticks of butter or margarine standing on their ends. We keep our butter in a dish on the counter anyway, so never used our old compartment and don’t miss it.
The freezer is not at all frustrating to work with because you can see everything you have very easily. There are compartments to organize it and an upper pull out shelf I use for meats.
The water dispenser on the door is fantastic as it dispenses water very quickly. (Our Kitchenaid was a pain because the water came out so slowly that we basically stopped using it.) The ice maker is fine for now, we are not big ice users. However, it does not store the ice in an easy to remove bucket the way some do. That was always handy when we needed cooler ice. There is some ice stored in a vertical slide out compartment, though.
We have the black version and it looks very sharp in our kitchen, coordinating well with our sleek looking JennAir double ovens. Todays black finishes tend to be smooth, as this one is, and I do miss the forgiving nature of the textured black finish of our Kitchen Aid. The smooth shows every smudge and fingerprint, but it is still much easier to clean and never looks as disgusting and dirty as the stainless does (ew!).
When the ice maker dispenses new ice into the holding area it creates a loud knocking due to the design of the bin. It sounds like a knock at the door and our dog takes off barking each time, pretty funny.
For the price, and we really shopped around, this was the best looking bottom freezer model and we are very happy with it.”

“Purchase date: OCTOBER 2006
Review date: JUNE 2007
Model purchased: RB215LASH “Platinum” Stainless look
Note: RB215LA is the model, SH is the color.
So if you wanted this unit in black it would be RB215LABP
Purchased at: Lowe’s Home Improvement
After changing my range, and then dishwasher from Almond to Stainless, my refrigerator was next on the list.
I was replacing an old Whirlpool that was still working fine, I just wanted to change colors.
My kitchen had a limited opening for the refrigerator, so a Side-By-Side wasn’t really an option. Plus I just don’t much care for the limited storage width in a Side-By-Side. So I considered top-mount (freezer on top), and bottom-mount (freezer on the bottom). I really liked the bottom-design due to the obvious fact that you use the refrigerator section more frequently than the freezer.
Most of the bottom-mounts that I liked were a bit out of my budget. Then I found the SAMSUNG, and it was an easy choice.
First, it fit in my opening! (30.3″W x 68.9″H)
Second, it was a great value at just under $1,000Third, it has a very nice appearance
Now, here are a few good things about this refrigerator.
-Dual Evaporators
Independent cooling for the freezer and refrigerator compartments means more optimal humidity conditions for both areas. And no air or odor transfer. If you put fish in the fridge you don’t get fishy ice. If you slam the fridge door it won’t force air into the freezer and make it pop open.
-Electronic Temperature Controls
Easy to set to the ideal temperature with ACTUAL temperature settings. That means if you want your refrigerator at 38 degrees then you set it at 38 degrees. You don’t set it at number 4 and hope that the number four setting is around where you want the temperature to be, which is how most refrigerators are.
The controls are located on the front of the refrigerator and do not take up any storage space inside the unit. They provide an interesting design focal point that most refrigerators don’t have. You either like it or you don’t. I like it.
The control board has 6 buttons.
Super Cool – Quickly cools your refrigeration compartment.
Super Freeze – Quickly cools your freezer compartment
Refrigerator Temp – Press to adjust temp
Freezer Temp – Press to adjust temp
Ice Off – Press to turn icemaker off/on
Child Lock – Prevent unwanted/accidental changes to controls
-Door Alarm
I haven’t seen this feature advertised anywhere, but it’s a nice feature. If you accidentally leave the door open, it beeps to remind you to close it. Simple feature, but nice
-QUIET!
I was blown away with how quiet these refrigerators are. You have to be actively listening to try and identify when the compressor cuts on.
-Freezer Light
Seems like a simple feature. But take a look. A lot of refrigerators don’t have one.
-Attractive Appearance
Available in a glossy black or the stainless-look “Platinum” that I chose. It matches well with my other appliances that are real stainless. But I don’t have to clean any fingerprints off. It also has color matched sides. So the sides are silver in color, not black like most models with a stainless or stainless-look on the front.
Also, I like the integrated handle design.
I have a range with a stainless handle and I didn’t want a refrigerator with a black plastic handle as most have, it just would not have looked right. There are some refrigerators with stainless handles, but they are usually kinda pricey.
-Easy To Clean
Shelving is spill-proof, meaning the edge of the shelf is sealed as to reduce/prevent liquid spills from escaping the shelf and dripping onto lower shelves.
The fridge compartment has rounded corners at the bottom which means no little crevices to have to figure out how to clean. Everything wipes up easy.
Again, the door bins are removable for cleaning. As is the ice storage bin.
-Factory Installed Icemaker
Icemaker can be switched off from the front mounted control board. The ice storage bin is large and should be ample for most families.
And here are a few bad things about the refrigerator.
-Limited Shelving Adjustability
The shelving in the refrigerator compartment is full-width and supported by small ledges on the side of the refrigerator walls. There are only a couple of options for the placement of these shelves. Compared to other units that offer rear-supported cantilever style shelves you don’t have as much flexibility.
Same with the door bins. Some models offer door bins that are adjustable. This unit has fixed door storage.
There is a top shelf with one elevation option & a snack drawer attached to the bottom
There is a middle shelf with three elevation options.
There is a bottom shelf which also serves as the top of the 2 humidity controlled crisper drawers.
There are a total of six door storage bins.
They are all removable for cleaning, but their elevation is not adjustable.
-Small Freezer Compartment
If you buy a lot of frozen foods and don’t have a secondary storage place for them then the freezer compartment may not be enough for you. Particularly if you purchase frozen pizzas. It will easily hold a few dozen microwave dinners, which is pretty much all i need. The large frozen pizza boxes just don’t fit. Not a big deal for me, when I get pizza it’s always delivery.
The freezer has a side swing door which opens to reveal 2 slide-out baskets for food storage. These are not on rollers but simply rest on a support that is integrated into the freezer side wall. (((correction, there are rollers on the freezer drawers)))The ice storage bin slides out and is on rollers. Or you have a clear plastic door that you can lift up to access your ice.
-Reversible Doors
Yes, they are reversible. They are just the most difficult to reverse of any doors I have ever seen. And I have reversed many refrigerator doors.
But heck, you only have to do it once.
In conclusion.
I think this is a very good refrigerator for the money.
I am very pleased with my purchase as it fits my needs perfectly, but review the points that I mentioned to make sure it will fit your needs.
Given the opportunity I would purchase this, or another Samsung refrigerator again without hesitation.”

“My wife and I recently built a new home and wanted new appliances. We wanted to get a side-by-side refrigerator with at least 25 cubic feet of storage and through-the-door water and ice dispensing. We were also looking to stay in the $1,000 range.
With these basic parameters in mind, we started looking. In this price range, there are a plethora of refrigerators from all the major manufacturers. In surveying the models and talking to some of our friends, I quickly came to the conclusion that I wanted a model with separate levers for ice and water and that also had real buttons.
The reason I wanted two separate levers is that models with only one shared lever require you to switch between ice and water, and a couple of our friends had to replace these switches within the first couple of years from normal use. A couple of them also experienced problems with the membrane-type buttons found on a number of different models. The problem was that repeated use had caused the membrane to become brittle and crack. Although the water and ice continued to function, the front of the refrigerator looked bad. So, from this advice, I sought out a model with real buttons and separate levers for the water and ice.
With these additional parameters, our search was narrowed down to one model from GE and the Samsung RS2630WW which we ultimately purchased. What really sold us on the Samsung was its build quality and the external digital display which allows you to adjust the temperature of the refrigerator and freezer at the touch of a button. Additionally, we liked the Xtra Storage Space feature in the freezer which is ideal for frozen pizzas and other narrow items.
Construction
The Samsung RS2630WW is 69-7/8″ high, 35-3/4″ wide, 35″ deep and weighs 280 pounds. It is not counter-depth, so it will stick out some beyond the front of your cabinets. In the refrigerator compartment, Samsung uses what it calls Twin X AirFlow Technology to keep the temperature consistent throughout. It also uses 4 tempered glass shelves which are spill-proof to contain messes. One of the shelves is retractable to makes room for taller items.
It is not Energy-Star compliant, but all of the new refrigerators are much more energy efficient than they were just a few years ago. By comparison, our 26 cubic foot Samsung side-by-side uses less energy than our 10-year old 18.2 cubic foot Kenmore top-freezer model which did not have an ice maker.
Conclusion
We have had the Samsung RS2630WW for a little over six weeks and are happy with it thus far. It is very quiet and had all of the features that we were looking for. We paid $950 for ours from Best Buy, but you can find them on sale for around $900. I highly recommend this refrigerator.”
