“We purchased the Maytag refrigerator to replace a 20-year Kitchen Aid that had seen better days. My wife picked this model because she liked the layout; French doors on the top and freezer on the bottom. We began looking at Kitchen Aid but wound up going with Maytag due to the simplicity in design (e.g. she did not want too many additional features other than a simple refrigerator).
She loves it because she can easily see everything in the refrigerator compartment just by opening the doors (e.g. no bending over to see what is hiding on the bottom shelves). She also likes the fact that the bottom freezer pulls out and that there is easy access to the contents in the freezer. I wouldn’t say that the access is “easy”, but it’s not too bad.
Since we have only had the refrigerator for six months, long-term reliability is unknown. Based on our limited usage; however, I would recommend to a friend who doesn’t want all the bells and whistles in a refrigerator.”

“I needed to replace my GE Profile that started leaking water on the floor. If I had to replace the compressor, it would be expensive so I decided to take that money and put it towards a new one as the GE was about 12 years old. I had moved & now needed a fridge to fit under a cabinet. That aspect greatly narrowed the field for choices. I like the concept of a bottom mount as I am more likely to be opening the refrigerator and not the freezer. So I looked at various ones and this one met my requirements. I downsized from a 24 to an 18. There are now fewer people in my household so I thought this should be feasible. I really miss the extra room, sometimes storage is a problem. It is very attractive, easy to clean. I always require glass shelves. The bottom has a pull out wire storage bin and a top shelf. The door mount was interchangeable from right or left so the delivery man asked me my preference and I told him that I wanted it to open on the left side so he installed it that way. The doors has roomy storage. I also required an Energy Star and my electric bill immediately went down so it does save money. Sometimes it makes a lot of noise.”

“I have been waiting seven years to get a new refrigerator and I’ve been drooling over the french door, freezer on the bottom for three of those years. We purchased it for a new-to-us-home renovation.
I have two children and I love to cook so I wanted the biggest frig I fit. This one does not fit as much as one would think. I’m glad I didn’t get rid of the garage refrigerator for drinks and back up storage. I do love the big door storage for milk and such. Very convenient.
I agree with everyone that the ice maker takes up a ton of space. We have not had any problems with the icemaker like other people have… but then my warranty hasn’t expired yet. The dispenser is not the greatest design. My entire family has yet to figure out what angle to put a cup in and manage to keep their arm and the floor dry.
The freezer is very roomy. It’s also set up well so that I have a clear view of a majority of my items. Easy access.
Originally I was shocked by the prices I saw people were paying but I got VERY lucky on our purchase: There was a sale on purchasing three Maytag items, a gift card give away with a certain amount purchased, a rebate from Maytag, and a rebate from our local energy company for buying energy saving appliances. We only paid 1150. No it wasn’t a refurb or anything. We just lucked out on the timing of our midwinter renovation project.
Two things I would note before purchasing:
1. Don’t place this in a kitchen where it is next to a wall. It bumps it constantly and kind of takes away from the ability to throw that sucker open wide.
2. It’s so LOUD. It’s like it wants you to know its up and running constantly. I often find myself late at night talking back to it “yes, I know you’re still working, I hear that”.

I had no idea the deli drawer slides out till I read another review. Nor did I ever think to use the can holders in the door for yogurt! Ya! More space! ”

“I bought this refrigerator because we were moving into a new house and didn’t bring the old appliances with us. I wanted a BIG refrigerator and I like the water/ice in the door option. Plus I like the freezer on the bottom.

I like the can slots in the door because I can use them for sodas or yogurt, which my sons love. The pull out deli drawer is wonderfully handy for storing deli stuff, cans of refrigerated rolls, biscuits, etc. You do have to open both doors to get into the deli drawer though. One of the options that caught my husband’s eye was the “ice-cold” milk section in the right door. You can set the temperature in just that compartment to keep your milk or whatever ICE COLD in the refrigerator!

As for the freezer – it is a pull-out drawer and then there is a drawer that slides so you have a top right, bottom right, top left, bottom left sections of the freezer. I have even found that there’s some “extra” space because the drawer doesn’t have to slide right over the top of the bottom space. When my freezer is really full, I can stand up a box of waffles and the top drawer slides right up to the box, but doesn’t crush it when the drawer shuts. So it seems like there is a hidden pocket of space!

I don’t like the huge area that is taken up by the ice machine on the left side of the refrigerator. It would have been better in the door or something else.

I have had this refrigerator for a year and 3 months and so far no problems other than the small amount of ice. No repairs so far, knock on wood.”

“My husband and I recently moved and renovated the entire kitchen. When shopping for appliances, we knew that we wanted black, but we were up in the air on what brand to get. Best Buy had a promotion going one week where you would get a gift card if you purchased 3 Maytag appliances – so that sealed the deal with us. We got our refrigerator, dishwasher and oven that night.
The appliances were delivered approximately 2 weeks later and were very nice looking. The refrigerator door had a small scratch on it, though, and being that we had just paid a lot of money for it, we contacted Maytag to find out what our options were. Their customer service department was great and they scheduled an appointment with their third party contractor to come out and look at the door. One look at the door and the serviceman said we would be shipped a new door. It was that easy!
The unit is very nice. I enjoy having the ice/water dispenser, which is something I have never had before. I also like the side by side doors. I find that it holds much more than my past refrigerators have held. And the fridge side has so many compartments that you would never think you need, but have turned out to be so handy. There is a drink cooler right on the door that quickly cools beverages. We keep our iced tea and sodas in there – and they really do get cold very fast. There is also a compartment for eggs, but since we don’t have any right now, it’s the perfect spot for butter and margarine.
One thing to note about the unit, if you get the glossy finish, is that you have to be very careful with what you use to clean the doors. Before we got the new door, my husband tried using one of those Mr. Clean erasers on the spot where there was sticker residue and it left it looking like it had been waxed, but could not be removed. So I suggest reading the instructions and be very careful when cleaning. I would probably advise getting the textured front rather than the glossy.”
