“What makes a good refrigerator? Since many if not all refrigerators are capable of the basic function of keeping food cool without spoiling them, the criteria comes down to interior organization, energy usage, aesthetics, and of course, price.
First of all, I have to say that this 2.7 cu. ft. refrigerator has enough space to store most common items such as gallon milk cartons, egg cartons, packages of meat, or vegetables. Although it is not possible to stock a large supply of food, it is understandably not this refrigerator’s purpose. Its presence in an office, a college dorm, hotel room and such provides a sufficient cooling room for a good volume of items.
The interior organization is actually quite flexible, with removable racks so to allow customization of space. In addition to the main storage area, there is a rack on the back of the door that is very useful for holding items such as bottles of soda, packages of deli meats, etc… There is a “freezer” area at the top right corner of the refrigerator and an ice tray is provided.
There is an energy usage chart that comes with the refrigerator, stating that this is one of the most energy efficient refrigerator of its class on an energy usage spectrum. I don’t suppose the manufacturer can get away with lying about things like this so I take it as truth. It costs about $25 of electricity annually if it is constantly plugged in.
The refrigerator is almost all white, which I don’t find a problem with. The top of the door looks nice (gray) and there is a little curved handle on top to open the refrigerator. In other words, you don’t have to worry about this refrigerator being the ugliest item that stands out in a room. It won’t be.
The price is very reasonable. It comes at $87 or so from Walmart. Although there are probably clearance sale at local stores that may occasionally offer a similar product for cheaper, the $87 is a great everyday price.
All in all, this refrigerator is functional, well organized, efficient, and economical. What more can you ask for?”

It’s a cutie, this 4.2-cubic-foot white refrigerator from Haier America. Great for cramped kitchenettes or in the family room, a bedroom, the dorm room, in an outside entertainment area or as a second refrigerator in the kitchen, this particular model has some clever features: a see-through crisper, a freezer at the top of the unit and dual Dispense-A-Can storage on the door, which is handy and makes good use of every inch of space.

“This isn’t the first Haier refrigerator I’ve owned. I purchased a smaller Haier refrigerator for my bathroom in December of 2002 and also reviewed it at Epinions.
I liked that refrigerator so much that it came as no surprise when I did my research, that the Haier brand won out again with great features and an even better price.
We have a small home theater on our lower level, with a closet under a flight of stairs which is wired for electricity. It seemed like the perfect place to stash a mini refrigerator and microwave so we could enjoy beer, popcorn and sodas with our movies.
I measured the space and sought out the largest compact refrigerator that would fit comfortably in it. The HSQ04WNA was the perfect size. It has plenty of interior room (4+ cubic feet of space), plus it’s narrow enough that we’ve got room to spare for stashing cases of soda and popcorn and a narrow trash can over to the side of the refrigerator.
Arrival and Assembly
I purchased the Haier HSQ04WNA Compact Refrigerator from a local office supply store where the friendly employees helped me load it into the back of my truck.
Unloading the refrigerator at our home, we found that it was packed well. The cardboard box had plastic tie downs on the outside. Unpacking it in our front hallway, we pulled off the styrofoam and the packing bag before carrying it downstairs. We moved it into the closet, plugged it in, and stashed some sodas and beer in it immediately.
The refrigerator also comes with a small manual. Much like the first Haier I bought, the manual barely warranted a read (except to check out the Warranty). It has some advice for defrosting in it and setting the temperature. Other than that, plugging in a refrigerator is a bit of a no-brainer and doesn’t require a novel to explain.
Features of the Refrigerator
This refrigerator comes with a number of useful features:
- The Flat Back Design means that you can push the refrigerator close to the wall. In areas where space is a consideration, this is very useful.
- A Dual Dispense-A-Can storage system is built into the door. This is brilliant. You can store ten sodas vertically in the door, pulling from the bottom (and filling at the top) as you go. It makes it easy to keep the refrigerator stocked.
- The Clear Crisper Drawer is useful if you want to use this refrigerator as your primary refrigerator. You can store small vegetables and other items in the crisper.
- The Full-Width Freezer Compartment means plenty of room for the small ice cube tray, or for frozen meals or snacks.
- It comes with a Reversible Door so you can rehang the door to best suit your space.
- Adjustable Leveling Legs mean you don’t have to wedge cardboard or something else up under a wobbly refrigerator.

Using the Refrigerator
This unit is perfect for what we want in a small, downstairs refrigerator. In addition to stashing ten sodas in the door, we have also filled it up with a couple of cases of beer and soda in the actual body of the refrigerator.
While not quite wide enough to hold a pizza box. this refrigerator is the perfect size for a single person in a dorm room or a small studio style apartment.
Maintenance
This is a manual defrost refrigerator. Every six months or so you will need to clear it out and unplug it so that the frost on the freezer can melt into the tray beneath it. We’ve not had to defrost the refrigerator yet, but if it’s like the smaller Haier refrigerator we have upstairs, it should be a fairly simple matter.
